Arsenal Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Martinelli · Havertz · Jesus · Merino · Partey · Rice · White · Gabriel · Saliba · Timber · RayaArsenal aims to control the ball and control the game through a high press, operating in a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and move the opposition toward their own goal through heavy possession. The Gunners look to use their technical quality to move through the thirds and create chances in advanced areas.
Raya operates between the posts to start the build up by playing short from the back. The back four consists of White on the right and Timber on the left, both expected to push up to provide width. Saliba and Gabriel form the central pair, with Saliba providing composure and aerial strength while Gabriel uses his strength to defend zonally. This defensive unit works to squeeze the space and maintain a high line to catch opponents offside.
The midfield operates with a single pivot, where Partey acts as the shield for the back four. Alongside him, Rice and Merino form a two man midfield unit designed to control the center. Rice uses his high work rate to press aggressively and win the second ball, while Merino provides an extra presence to help carry the ball forward. This trio works to connect the defense to the attack by recycling possession and finding pockets of space.
In the attacking third, Arsenal utilizes three attackers to stretch the defense. Havertz acts as a pressing centre forward who can also drop into the hole to link up play. Martinelli stays wide on the left to run in behind, while Jesus occupies the right side to cut inside and create chaos. The team builds attacks through quick combinations, looking to use the width provided by the full backs to deliver crosses or play through the lines.
One major tactical strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three to trigger a press. Another advantage is the numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch, allowing Arsenal to dominate possession. The team also shows great flexibility to shift between shapes to deny the turn of opposing midfielders.
This 4-3-3 formation relies on high intensity and technical ball retention to break down opponents. It is best suited for matches against teams that sit deep and allow Arsenal to control the tempo of the game.
