Starting Lineup

LEZCANO · WALLINGRE · PANOZZO · WALLINGRE · FRANCISCONI · PORTILLO · PORTILLO · WALLINGRE · BASSE · ARCE · QUIROZ

Independiente focuses on a direct and vertical style of play using a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the second ball and hit the opposition quickly through transitions. The team seeks to maintain compactness while moving from a mid-block into a fast attacking phase.

Lezcano stays between the posts to command the area. The back line functions as a flat back four where WALLINGRE operates as the right back to provide width while PANOZZO sits as the right centre back. WALLINGRE also covers the left centre back role to anchor the defense. FRANCISCONI plays as the left back to defend the flank and help the midfield. The defensive unit works together to squeeze the space between the lines and protect the goalkeeper.

The midfield operates with a central presence that connects the lines. PORTILLO acts as a single pivot to shield the defense and win possession. WALLINGRE and BASSE occupy the central midfield roles to drive forward with the ball and press in a mid-block. PORTILLO also moves into the central midfield role to help carry the ball forward and recycle possession when needed. This group works to intercept passes and win it back high up the pitch to trigger an immediate attack.

Independiente utilizes two forwards in a partnership to stretch the opposition. QUIROZ leads the line as a pressing centre forward to force a long ball from the defenders. ARCE plays as the second striker to find space between the lines and make runs in behind. The forwards work to pin the last defender and create space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box. They combine in tight spaces to play through the lines and get to the byline.

This formation offers several tactical advantages for Independiente. The use of a two man strike force allows for quick transitions and constant pressure on the opposition center backs. The midfield setup provides compactness when defending, making it difficult for opponents to play through the middle. Additionally, the team can create wide overloads when the full backs push up to support the wide midfielders.

The 4-4-2 formation provides a reliable way to defend in a mid-block and strike on the break. It is a setup best suited for games against teams that hold a lot of possession and leave space behind their defensive line.
