Starting Lineup

Svilar · Sangare · Hummels · N'Dicka · Angelino · Kone · Pisilli · Baldanzi · Zalewski · Soule · Dovbyk

Roma aims to dominate through high pressing and verticality with a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly attack the space behind the opposition defence. The team looks to play through the thirds with speed, using short passes to progress the ball before looking to hit in behind on the transition.

Svilar plays behind a back four that focuses on maintaining a high line to squeeze the space. Hummels acts as a ball playing centre back, looking to play short from the back and find the midfielders. Beside him, N'Dicka provides aerial strength and covers the space behind when the line steps up. Sangare operates as a defensive wing back to provide stability on the right, while Angelino pushes higher to overlap the winger on the left. The defensive unit works to keep the team compact and force a long ball from the opponent.

The midfield consists of a single pivot and two eight roles. Kone acts as the deep lying playmaker, sitting in front of the defence to shield the line and recycle possession. Pisilli drives forward with the ball to connect the lines, while Baldanzi operates in the half spaces to create chances. This midfield trio works to win it back high up the pitch and then quickly finds the forwards. They focus on winning the second ball to keep the pressure on the opponent.

Roma uses three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. Dovbyk acts as a target man, holding up the ball to allow others to join the attack. On the flanks, Zalewski and Soule act as inverted wingers who cut inside to find pockets of space. This movement creates space for Angelino to overlap on the left. The forwards press from the front to force mistakes, often looking to play a one two to break the line and find Dovbyk in the box.

A major advantage for Roma is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three to trigger a press. The team also finds success by creating wide overloads when Angelino joins the attack on the left. This creates numerical superiority in the final third and allows the players to combine in tight spaces. The speed of transition from the midfield to the wide players makes them very dangerous.

This 4-3-3 formation relies on intense pressing and quick vertical passing to break teams down. It is best suited for matches against opponents who play a high line and struggle to defend the space behind their defenders.
