Lecce aims to remain hard to beat by controlling the central areas of the pitch. They deploy a 4-5-1 formation to maintain a heavy presence in the middle. This lineup is built to sit deep and win the second ball before hitting in behind on the transition.

Goalkeeper 1 organizes the defensive unit from the back. The back four stays compact with 2 at right back, 6 at left back, 4 as right centre back, and 3 as left centre back. The midfield functions as a five man block designed to squeeze the space. 5 and 9 work as a double pivot to shield the defence and win it back high up the pitch when possible. 7 and 8 act as central midfielders who link the defence to the attack, while 10 plays as an attacking ten to provide support for the forward. This group can press in a mid-block to force a long ball from the opposition. 5 and 9 are vital to deny the pivot and protect the center of the pitch.

A lone striker, 11, leads the line to pressure the opposition back line. Because 11 works alone up front, the player must hold up the ball and wait for 7, 8, or 10 to arrive late into the box. The attack is built through quick transitions where the team looks to break quickly. 11 will try to run in behind or link up play between the lines to create chances. When the team is out of possession, the forwards must press from the front to trigger a press.

Lecce gains a major advantage through compactness when defending. The midfield group provides numerical superiority in midfield to intercept passes and control the center. They can also shift quickly to cover wide areas, making it difficult for teams to find space.
