Inter focuses on a high press and quick transitions using a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to control the tempo through a central heavy midfield while using wing backs to stretch the pitch. The team looks to win the ball high up the pitch and move it forward with vertical passing to catch opponents out of position.

Sommer acts as the last line of defense, often sweeping behind a high line to cover long balls. The back three consists of Acerbi, Bastoni, and Pavard. Acerbi provides aerial strength and defensive solidity in the center, while Bastoni acts as a ball playing defender who can carry the ball forward from deep. Pavard covers the right side of the back three, ensuring the unit stays compact when defending zonally. This defensive block works together to squeeze the space between the lines and prevent through balls.

The midfield is a three man midfield with a carrier and a deep lying playmaker. Çalhanoğlu sits as the single pivot to shield the defense and dictate play with his passing range. Beside him, Barella drives forward with the ball and uses his high energy to press aggressively in the middle. Mkhitaryan connects the defensive and attacking lines, often arriving late into the box to support the play. Dimarco and Dumfries occupy the wide areas, acting as attacking wing backs who provide much needed width.

Inter uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the attack. Martínez works as a mobile striker who can drop into space to link up play, while Thuram acts as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition back line. The attack relies on the movement of these two to create runs in behind or to allow Dimarco and Dumfries to overlap the winger. When Inter build from the back, the midfielders work to find the feet of the striker or split the defence with a through ball to exploit gaps.

One major advantage for Inter is the numerical superiority in midfield which allows them to dominate the central areas. The ability to use Dimarco and Dumfries to create wide overloads from overlapping full backs also makes them very difficult to mark. This formation offers great flexibility to transition from a compact mid block to a devastating counter at pace.

This 3-5-2 formation provides Inter with a balanced way to dominate the ball and strike quickly. It is best suited for games where the team needs to control the central zone while exploiting the space on the flanks.
