Starting Lineup

Burian · Baka · Vodera · Makky · Vadovič · Boledovič ("C") · Kamon · Janitor · Charvát · Záhorák · Havlík

Šamorín focuses on a heavy defensive presence to disrupt opponents and win the ball back through a compact unit, utilizing a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to stay hard to beat and rely on quick transitions to catch the opposition out. By sitting deep, the team aims to frustrate the front line of the other side and look for moments to hit in behind.

Burian stands between the posts to command the area and organize the back line. The defensive unit functions as a back five with Boledovič acting as the central anchor to win the header and clear the lines. Vodera and Makky operate as the wide centre-backs to provide cover when the wing backs push up. Baka and Vadovič play as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width and tracking back to prevent crosses. This defensive block stays narrow to protect the central zone and force the opposition to play wide.

The midfield operates as a flat four to maintain a compact mid-block. Charvát and Janitor form the central pairing, with Charvát tasked to shield the defence and Janitor looking to carry the ball forward. They must work to compress the midfield and deny the turn to any oncoming attackers. Záhorák and Kamon play on the flanks to provide cover for the wing backs and win the second ball. This four-man unit links the defence to the attack by recycling possession and finding ways to play through the lines once they win the ball.

Havlík acts as a lone striker and a pressing centre-forward to unsettle the opposition back line. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to move up the pitch. The attack relies on the wide players, Záhorák and Kamon, to spread wide and deliver balls into the box. When Šamorín wins the ball high up the pitch, Havlík looks to run in behind or link up play with the runners arriving from the midfield. The goal is to isolate a one on one wide or use quick combinations to break the line.

A main strength of this Šamorín lineup is the compactness when defending in a low block. The five defenders and four midfielders make it very difficult for opponents to find space between the lines. Another advantage is the ability to use the wing backs to create wide overloads during a transition. This allows the team to switch play quickly and catch the opposition before they can get organized.

The 5-4-1 formation provides a very solid defensive base that is difficult to break down. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession where the priority is to stay compact and strike on the break.
