Starting Lineup

VERES · KOVACS · BORZSEI · LANTOS · KOVACS · KOVACS · SANDOR · HIDEGKUTI · PALOTAS · MOLNAR · SZIMCSAK

MTK plays with a direct and pressing identity using a 4-4-2 formation. The team aims to win the ball high up the pitch and break quickly to catch the opponent off balance. This lineup focuses on verticality and winning second balls to maintain constant pressure in the final third.

VERES guards the goal as the primary goalkeeper. The defensive unit works as a flat back four with LANTOS and BORZSEI occupying the central roles. LANTOS and BORZSEI must defend zonally and hold the line to prevent through balls. On the flanks, the left back KOVACS and the right back KOVACS act as the wide defenders. They need to track back to protect the wide areas and stay compact to ensure the defensive unit remains difficult to penetrate.

The midfield is composed of two central players and two wide midfielders. SANDOR and HIDEGKUTI form the central pairing where SANDOR works to shield the defence. HIDEGKUTI is tasked to carry the ball forward and link the defensive and attacking lines. On the wings, the left midfielder KOVACS and PALOTAS provide the necessary width. KOVACS must press aggressively to win the ball high, while PALOTAS looks to recycle possession and switch play to the opposite side.

In the attacking phase, MTK utilizes two forwards working in a partnership. MOLNAR operates as a central striker to hold up the ball and find the feet of SZIMCSAK. SZIMCSAK plays as a second striker who makes runs in behind to exploit space. They press the opposition back line to force a long ball and create chances in transition. The attackers work to stretch the defence, often receiving service from the wide players or through quick combinations in tight spaces.

The formation offers significant tactical advantages, particularly the compactness when defending in a mid-block. By maintaining two banks of four, MTK makes it very hard for the opposition to play through the lines. Additionally, the team can press high in coordinated waves, using the front two to trigger a press that the wide midfielders support. This allows the team to win the ball back high up the pitch and launch immediate attacks.

This 4-4-2 formation provides a reliable way for MTK to remain defensively solid while staying dangerous on the break. It is an ideal lineup for facing teams that want to control possession but struggle against a high press.
