Cardozo guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line features a central trio of Torrent, Corvalan, and Pardo. Corvalan and Pardo defend the wide areas of the central zone while Torrent holds the center to win headers and clear the lines. B. Pitton and Vargas act as attacking wing backs to provide width in the transition. They push high to stretch the opposition when the team moves forward. The defensive unit functions as a whole to deny space between the lines and force play into wide areas.

In the middle of the pitch, the three-man midfield works to control the center. M.Pitton and Mosqueira play as a pair to shield the defense and win the second ball. They work together to protect the central defenders and recycle possession to keep the team organized. Rivero plays in the hole as an attacking ten, looking to connect the midfield to the front line. He is tasked to carry the ball forward and find the attackers with through balls to progress through the thirds.

Attacking play relies on a partnership between Orsini and Balboa. These two forwards work in tandem to press the opposition back line and prevent them from building play. Balboa and Orsini look to make runs in behind or hold up the ball to wait for support. Width comes from B. Pitton and Vargas who look to get to the byline and whip it in for the strikers. This creates a system that can attack in combinations through the middle or from the flanks.

Specific tactical advantages of this formation include the ability to stay very compact when defending in a mid-block. Having Torrent, Corvalan, and Pardo ensures there is massive coverage against central runs. Additionally, the team can create wide overloads when the wing backs overlap the attackers. This allows Unión (SF) to transition from a defensive block to an attacking force with great speed of transition.
