Starting Lineup

sam · kuba · freddie · alfie · aden · me · cooper · deacon · reuben · lucas · billy

Burnley focuses on a high press and quick transitions, playing a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup seeks to win the ball high up the pitch and use verticality to catch the opposition out of position. The goal is to squeeze the space in the opponent half and strike with speed once the ball is recovered.

Sam guards the goal and manages the defensive line from deep. The back four functions as a flat back four where kuba acts as the right back and aden covers the left flank. In the center, freddie and alfie form the main defensive pairing to hold the line and win the second ball. They must stay compact to prevent through balls and ensure they do not get caught too far up the pitch when the team pushes forward.

The midfield operates as a three-man midfield with a carrier. Cooper and me work to control the central area, with me acting to cover ground in the left half-space. Deacon plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space between the lines. This unit works to connect the defense to the attack, with the players tasked to press aggressively to win the ball back high up the pitch.

Burnley utilizes three attackers across the front to stretch the defense. Lucas acts as a pressing centre-forward to lead the line and disrupt the opposition build up. On the flanks, billy and reuben operate as wide wingers to provide width. Billy and reuben look to cut inside to create passing lanes or spread wide to cross. This front three is designed to create runs in behind and force the opposition defenders to drop deep.

A major advantage for Burnley is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, forcing errors from the opposition goalkeeper and defenders. The team also benefits from the speed of transition when the midfield wins possession. By using the width provided by billy and reuben, the team can quickly switch play to find pockets of space in the final third.

This 4-3-3 formation is built to dominate games through intense pressure and rapid attacking movements. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
