Šamorín Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Eze · Janitor · Vodera · Podkonický · Baka · Makky · Havlík · Boledovič ("C") · Cserepkai · Šulák · CharvátŠamorín aims to play a direct and vertical style of football using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup seeks to defend in a compact low block before hitting the opposition on the transition to exploit large spaces behind the defensive line.
Eze guards the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of Makky, Vodera, and Podkonický. Makky sits in the center to command the area and win headers, while Vodera and Podkonický provide cover and step up to intercept passes. Janitor and Baka act as attacking wing backs, tasked with spreading the width of the pitch and pushing high to support the attack. This back five allows the team to stay narrow when defending and prevent opponents from playing through the middle.
The midfield relies on a two man unit to control the center of the pitch. Havlík and Boledovič function as the central pair, with the responsibility to protect the back three and win the second ball. Havlík works to shield the defense and recycle possession, while Boledovič looks to carry the ball forward and connect the defensive line to the attackers. They must press in a mid block to prevent the opposition from turning, ensuring the distance between the midfield and the back line remains small.
In the attacking third, Šamorín utilizes three attackers to stretch the opposition. Šulák acts as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Charvát and Cserepkai operate as wide wingers, looking to cut inside and create goalscoring chances. These forwards press from the front to force a long ball and disrupt the opposition build up. The wingers aim to get to the byline to deliver crosses, while Šulák makes runs in behind to receive through balls.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to create wide overloads when Janitor and Baka overlap the wingers. The team also benefits from great compactness when defending in a narrow block, making it difficult for opponents to find gaps. Furthermore, the speed of transition allows Šamorín to counter at pace, catching the opposition out of position during the turnover.
The 5-2-3 formation provides Šamorín with a reliable defensive base and potent counter attacking potential. It is a setup best suited for facing teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their advancing full backs.
