Starting Lineup

Eze · Janitor · Vodera · Podkonický · Baka · Makky · Havlík · Boledovič ("C") · Cserepkai · Šulák · Charvát

Focused on defensive stability and quick counter attacking, Šamorín employs a 5-2-3 formation. The lineup is built to stay compact and strike hard when the opposition loses the ball in the middle third. The team focuses on protecting the central zone while using the width of the pitch to stretch the defense during breaks. By sitting in a mid block, the players force the opponent to play wide.

Eze operates in goal to command the box and clear the lines. The back five relies on Makky as the central defender to win the header and stay central. Podkonický plays as the right centre-back to cover the space and mark runners, while Vodera acts as the left centre-back to provide cover. Janitor functions as an attacking wing back on the right to overlap the winger, and Baka plays as the left wing back to push up and provide width. The whole unit works to stay compact and deny the turn.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to control the central area. Havlík and Boledovič work to shield the defense and win the second ball. Havlík acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball, while Boledovič stays deep to protect the center and recycle possession. This duo connects the defensive unit to the attack by playing short from the back and looking to break the line with vertical passes. They press in pairs to trigger a press in the middle third.

The front three provides the main threat in transition. Šulák works as the lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. Charvát and Cserepkai act as wide attackers who cut inside to create space for the overlapping wing backs. Charvát tries to get to the byline to deliver early crosses, while Cserepkai looks to attack the near post. The team uses these movements to create runs in behind and exploit the space left by an advancing opponent.

There are clear tactical advantages to this formation. The team creates wide overloads when Janitor and Cserepkai work together on the right flank. The ability to press in a mid block provides compactness when defending against teams that like to pass through the middle. Furthermore, the speed of transition allows the players to hit in behind on the transition before the opposition can settle.

This 5-2-3 formation is a defensively solid way to play for Šamorín. It is best suited for matches against possession based teams that push their defenders high up the pitch.
