Chelsea Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Sanchez · Colwill · Fofana · James · Gusto · Caicedo · Felix · lavia · Jackson · Madueke · NetoChelsea aims to control games through high pressing and quick vertical transitions using a 4-3-3. This formation is built to press from the front and win the ball high up the pitch to catch opponents out of position. The lineup focuses on creating quick combinations to stretch the defence and exploit gaps in the middle of the park.
Sanchez plays between the posts to organize the back line. Chelsea uses a staggered back four where Fofana acts as the right back and James takes the left back role. Colwill and lavia operate as the central defenders, with Colwill often playing as a ball playing defender to start attacks. These defenders must hold the line and be ready to step up to set the offside trap or drop into a low block when under pressure.
The midfield functions with a three man midfield with a carrier. Caicedo acts as the engine to protect the back line and win the second ball, while Gusto works as an inverted eight to carry the ball forward. Felix operates in the advanced role as an attacking ten behind the striker to link the lines and find the feet of the striker. This trio works to compress the midfield and ensure they do not get bypassed during transitions.
In the attacking phase, Chelsea uses three attackers across the front. Neto stays wide as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside, while Madueke stays wide on the right to isolate a one on one wide. Jackson acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and make runs in behind. The forwards look to combine in tight spaces and use the width provided by the wingers to create openings.
One major tactical advantage is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to force a long ball from the opponent. The team also benefits from the speed of transition when Caicedo or Gusto wins the ball and immediately looks to hit in behind on the transition. This allows Chelsea to move from a mid-block to an attacking stance very quickly.
This 4-3-3 formation relies on high intensity to disrupt the rhythm of the opposition. It is best suited for matches where Chelsea can exploit a high line through the pace of Neto and Madueke.
