The midfield works to connect the defensive and attacking lines through quick transitions and passing.

The attacking unit relies on a two man partnership up front. Vedad Muriqi plays as a target man, using his aerial strength to hold up the ball and win the header. Cyle Larin plays as a second striker in the hole, looking to receive on the half turn and play through the lines. The wingers pull wide to spread the defense, allowing for cutbacks from the byline or quick transitions.

The tactical advantages of this Mallorca formation include extreme compactness when defending. The team can use the aerial dominance of Muriqi to win direct balls and immediately transition into attack. Another strength is the ability to switch play through the passing range of Darder to find isolated wide players in one on one situations to create goal scoring opportunities.

This 4-4-2 formation provides a very hard unit to break down through central play. It is best suited for games against high possession teams where Mallorca can sit deep and hit in behind on the transition to catch the opponent out.
