To maintain heavy offensive pressure and win the ball back high up the pitch, KV Mechelen utilizes a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to pin the opposition back and use the numbers upfront to overwhelm them in transition.

Senne stays between the posts to guard the goal. The back four consists of Tomas at right back and Marre at left back, who both need to balance their defensive duties with the need to push up. Stijn and Vic form the central pair, where Stijn acts as a right centre back and Vic plays as the left centre back. They must defend zonally and be ready to step up to catch opponents offside. The defensive unit works as a single block to close down gaps when the ball is lost.

In the middle of the park, the formation uses a double pivot consisting of Robin and Quentin. These two are responsible for shielding the defense and connecting the back line to the front four. Robin and Quentin must work hard to cover the space left by the advancing full backs. They aim to win the second ball and recycle possession to keep the pressure on the opponent. When the team loses the ball, they must quickly squeeze the space to prevent direct passes through the center.

The attacking force of KV Mechelen is very heavy with four players across the front. Jarno plays as a central striker, often supported by either Lars or Izzy as a second forward. On the flanks, Pierre, Marco, or Andres can occupy the left wing, while Marco, Pierre, or Thijs take positions on the right wing. The wide players are expected to spread wide to stretch the defence or cut inside to create extra numbers in the box. This front line is designed to attack in combinations and hit in behind on the transition.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs push forward to support the wingers.
