Independiente looks to control games through a highly aggressive and vertical system using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup focuses on overwhelming the opponent in the middle of the pitch to win the ball back high up the pitch. By crowding the center, the team seeks to disrupt the opposition rhythm and launch direct attacks immediately after a turnover.

Rey stays between the posts to manage the back line. The defensive unit operates with a narrow back two consisting of Pellegrino and Lomonaco. These two central defenders must act as covering specialists, often having to step up to intercept long balls or track runners into the space behind them. Because the defensive line is so thin, they rely on the midfielders to protect the zone in front of them and avoid being caught in a footrace.

The midfield is the engine room of this Independiente lineup. It features a deep trio of Vacante and Vera acting as a double pivot to shield the defense, while Marcone operates as a central midfielder to link play. Ahead of them, Loyola and Atencio play as two attacking tens in the half-spaces. Marcone works to recycle possession and find the feet of the forwards, while Vacante and Vera provide the steel to win the second ball. These five players together squeeze the space and force the opposition into mistakes.

In the final third, the team utilizes three attackers to stretch the opposition. Avalos acts as a pressing centre-forward, using his physical presence to pin the last defender and hold up the ball. On the flanks, Montiel and Rigoni operate as wide wingers who hug the touchline to create width. This allows the attacking tens, Loyola and Atencio, to drift into central areas to combine in tight spaces or arrive late into the box. The goal is to use the width to pull defenders apart and then play through the lines to Avalos.

A major advantage for this formation is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows the team to dominate the central zone. The wide players, Montiel and Rigoni, can also create situations to isolate wide players in one on one battles. This high density in the middle makes it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back without facing immediate pressure.
