AEK focuses on a vertical style of play using a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball and hit the opposition quickly in transition. The team looks to move the ball forward with directness to catch the opponent out of position.

ATMATZIDIS stays between the posts to organize the defense. The back line operates as a flat back four to maintain compactness. KAPSIS and DELLAS work as central defenders, with KAPSIS acting as a ball playing defender to start attacks. KASAPIS plays as the left back and BORBOKIS occupies the right back position. They aim to hold a high line to squeeze the space and ensure the team does not sit too deep.

The midfield functions as a four man unit designed to control the central zones. KATSOURANIS acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Beside him, PINEDA and SAVEVSKI work to connect the lines and carry the ball forward. ARAUJO operates as an attacking ten behind the strikers, looking to play through the lines and find pockets of space. This midfield group works to win the second ball and press in a mid-block when the opposition has the ball.

AEK uses two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defense. LEVI GARCIA and SCOCCO work together to lead the line, with LEVI GARCIA often looking to find space in behind. The two attackers are tasked to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. They use combinations to break the line and create chances. The wide players and the attacking midfielder help to support the front two, creating a heavy presence in the final third to deliver crosses and create scoring opportunities.

This formation provides significant advantages through its ability to press in coordinated waves. AEK can achieve numerical superiority in the central areas when ARAUJO pushes high. The team also benefits from a high level of compactness when defending, making it difficult for opponents to find passing lanes between the lines.

The 4-4-2 lineup is built for a direct and aggressive style of football. It is best suited for matches where the team can exploit the space left by an attacking opponent on the transition.
