Starting Lineup

Lanús focuses on defensive stability and quick verticality through a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting the opponent on the break. The team looks to control the central areas while utilizing the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the opposition.

MAURI operates between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line functions as a narrow defensive block with three central defenders. TITO acts as the central figure to win the header and clear the lines, while GUILLE and PIPA provide cover on either side. JOACO and CHINCHU act as attacking wing backs, pushing high up the pitch to provide width, but they must track back quickly to form a five man line when the opposition has the ball.

A three man midfield occupies the center of the pitch to control the tempo. SANTI and EZE work to compress the midfield and win the second ball, while JOSE plays as an attacking ten behind the two forwards. JOSE seeks to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines to connect the defensive and attacking units. The trio works to deny the turn for opposing midfielders and ensures the team stays compact when defending in a mid block.

The attacking unit relies on a partnership of two forwards. AGU and FACU work in combination to harass the opposition back line and hunt for space in behind. AGU often acts as a pressing centre forward to trigger a press from the front, while FACU looks to hold up the ball and lay it off to arriving runners. The team creates chances through direct passes or by utilizing the width of JOACO and CHINCHU to deliver crosses into the box.

This formation offers Lanús significant advantages in defensive compactness and the ability to counter at pace. By sitting in a low block, the team makes it difficult for opponents to find space between the lines.
