They defend zonally to maintain a compact line and prevent runners from finding space between the units.

The midfield operates in two banks of four to ensure the team stays hard to beat. Bremner and Giles form the central engine room, with Bremner often driving forward to carry the ball through the middle. Giles works to connect the defence to the attack, providing a link for the transition. On the flanks, Lorimer and Gray provide width, with Lorimer acting as a creative force on the right and Gray looking to push up on the left. This four man unit works to squeeze the space in the middle and win the ball back quickly.

Leeds utilizes two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. Clarke and Charles operate as a dual strike force, with Clarke often playing as the more advanced threat. The two strikers press the opposition back line to force long balls and win possession high up the pitch. They look to combine in tight spaces or use runs in behind to exploit a high defensive line. The wingers Lorimer and Gray pull wide to deliver crosses into the box for the strikers to attack.

One major advantage for Leeds is the ability to press in a mid block to frustrate opponents. The numerical equality in the wide areas allows the team to double up on opposing wingers and prevent crosses. Another strength is the speed of transition when the central duo of Bremner and Giles wins the ball and immediately finds the forwards.
