Starting Lineup

Wöber · Struijk · Ampadu · D. James · J. Firpo · Gruev · Aaronson · Piroe · Solomon · Gnonto · Meslier

Leeds relies on a high press and quick transitions through a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and use verticality to punish opponents. By spreading the pitch wide, the team creates space for players to run into behind the defensive line.

Meslier acts as the goalkeeper, playing a key role in starting play from the back. The defensive unit uses a back three consisting of Wöber, Struijk, and Ampadu. Struijk operates as a ball playing centre back, while Ampadu covers ground as a right centre back. Wöber stays central to win the header and defend zonally. The back three must remain compact to prevent through balls and manage the space between the lines.

The midfield functions with two wide players and two central midfielders. Gruev and Aaronson operate in the middle to control the tempo and press aggressively to win the ball. Gruev acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward, while Aaronson works to intercept passes and cover the space. J. Firpo and D. James play as wide midfielders, providing the necessary width to stretch the defence. They must track back to support the defenders when the team is out of possession.

Leeds uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Piroe plays as a pressing centre forward, looking to find the feet of the striker and hold up the ball. Gnonto and Solomon act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goalscoring chances. Gnonto uses his dribbling style to beat his marker, while Solomon looks to play through the lines. This front three creates combinations to attack the space between the opposition full backs and centre backs.

One major advantage of this formation for Leeds is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The front three and the midfield duo can squeeze the space to force a long ball. Another strength is the width provided by J. Firpo and D. James, which creates wide overloads when they overlap the winger. This allows the team to switch play quickly and isolate wide players in one on one situations.

This formation is built to dominate games through high intensity and rapid attacking movements. It is best suited for facing opponents who play a high line or struggle to handle intense pressing.
