Elche relies on a high press and rapid transitions through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to squeeze the space in the middle and use the central density to win the ball back high up the pitch. Diego stays behind a back three to play short from the back and start the build up. Hugo Fernández plays as the left centre back to cover the wide areas, while Joan Mut occupies the right side to track back and defend the flank. Juan Campos sits in the middle as the central defender to win the header and organize the line. This defensive unit defends zonally to maintain a compact block and deny the turn to the opposition players.

A five man midfield allows Elche to dominate the central areas and recycle possession. Pablo Rojo and Andrés Baile act as a deep lying playmaker pairing to shield the defence and protect the centre backs. Herraiz and Haizam Mohamed operate in the half spaces to link the defensive and attacking lines. Guardiola plays in the middle to carry the ball forward and arrive late into the box to score.
