Starting Lineup

Inter focuses on a direct and powerful style of play using a 3-5-2 formation. The team seeks to win the ball in the middle of the pitch and move quickly towards the opponent's goal. This lineup is built to control the central zones and use a high volume of passes through the middle to break the lines.

Casillas commands the area from in goal to protect the back three. The defensive unit consists of Hummels in the center, with Barzagli on the right and T.Silva on the left. Hummels is dominant in the air and works to sweep behind a high line when needed, while Barzagli and T.Silva act as the wide centre-backs to cover the flanks. They defend zonally to stay compact and ensure they win the second ball in their own half.

The midfield acts as a heavy engine room using a double pivot and a central playmaker. Rakitic and Touré work to shield the defense, with Touré using his strength to win the ball and Rakitic to recycle possession. Alba and Carvajal occupy the half-spaces to help the team progress through the thirds, while D.Silva plays as the attacking ten behind the strikers. D.Silva is tasked to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often dropping to receive on the half-turn or making runs to arrive late into the box to score.

In the final third, Inter utilizes two forwards to pressure the opposition. Agüero and Hazard operate as a partnership, looking to exploit the space between the defenders. Agüero is a clinical presence who constantly looks to run in behind, whereas Hazard often drops into the hole to link up play between the lines. They use quick combinations to split the defence with a through ball and work to isolate defenders in one on one situations.

One clear tactical strength is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows Inter to squeeze the space and dominate the central area. The presence of the double pivot makes it hard for opponents to find passing lanes into the middle and keeps the team compact. Furthermore, the team can use wide overloads when Alba and Carvajal push up to support the attack, creating extra options and forcing the opposition to spread wide.
