Starting Lineup

Zinchenko · Timber · Saliba · G. Magalhães · Sterling · Saka · Havertz · Ødegaard · Rice · G. Jesus · Raya

Arsenal focuses on aggressive pressing and high possession with a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup aims to dominate the pitch by crowding the central areas and keeping the ball in the opposition half. By pushing many players forward, the team looks to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly progress through the thirds to catch the opponent out of position.

David Raya starts in goal to play out from the back and act as a sweeper behind the high line. The defensive unit consists of a back two with Gabriel Magalhães and Saliba acting as the central defenders. Saliba uses his recovery speed to cover the space while Gabriel Magalhães provides aerial strength and physical presence. This small back line relies on the midfielders to squeeze the space and prevent direct balls from reaching the strikers.

The midfield acts as the engine room of Arsenal with a heavy presence in the center. Declan Rice sits as a single pivot to shield the defence and intercept play. To his left and right, Timber and Zinchenko operate in the half spaces to help control the tempo. Martin Ødegaard plays in a creative role to link the lines and find the feet of the striker, while Kai Havertz acts as an advanced midfielder to arrive late into the box and provide an extra threat from deep.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Bukayo Saka plays on the right as an inverted winger to cut inside and create chances, while Raheem Sterling operates on the left to pull wide. Gabriel Jesus leads the line as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition build up. The attackers work in combinations to find space, often using runs in behind to exploit the gaps left by a high defensive line.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the midfield. By having five players occupying the central zones, the team can easily recycle possession and control the rhythm of the game. Another strength is the high press in coordinated waves, which makes it very difficult for opponents to play short from the back. This setup forces the opposition into long balls that the central defenders can easily win.

This high risk, high reward lineup is designed for total dominance through territorial control. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to break down a low block through constant pressure.
