Sporting CP focuses on a high press and verticality with a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to squeeze the pitch and win the ball back high up the pitch to catch opponents before they can settle. By using a heavy attacking presence, the team seeks to dominate the final third and drive the game forward with speed.

Salvador operates between the posts to protect the goal. The defensive unit works in a back three consisting of Nicolas, Mamadou, and Mádson. Nicolas plays as the right center back to cover the wide areas, while Mamadou acts as the central anchor to win the headers and clear the lines. Mádson occupies the left center back spot to provide balance. This back three must defend zonally to keep a compact shape when the team drops into a mid-block.

The midfield works in a flat four to control the center and provide width. Aníbal and Gilson act as wing backs to provide constant width along the touchlines. In the middle, Yuji and Mads form a two man engine room. Yuji works to shield the defence and recycle possession, while Mads has the license to carry the ball forward and link the defensive and attacking lines. This pairing must be ready to intercept passes and press in pairs to stop the opposition from playing through the lines.

In the final third, Sporting CP utilizes three attackers to stretch the defence. Paulo and Tomané operate as wide wingers, with Paulo hugging the touchline and Tomané looking to cut inside to create goal scoring chances. Alexander acts as the lone striker, tasked to find the feet of the striker or make runs in behind the defensive line. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition, allowing the midfield and defenders to win the second ball.

One major advantage for Sporting CP is the ability to create wide overloads through the movement of Aníbal and Gilson. These wing backs can overlap the winger to pin the last defender and deliver crosses into the box. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three and the midfield to squeeze the space and win it back high up the pitch. This creates constant pressure on the opponent.

This 3-4-3 formation relies on intense physical output and high energy. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line or struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
