Tottenham Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Udogie · Porro · van de Ven · Romero · Bentancur · Sarr · Maddison · Werner · Son · Kulusevski · VicarioTottenham play with a high intensity and vertical identity using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to press high and attack with speed to catch the opposition out of position. The goal is to keep the ball in the final third and use quick movements to create chances.
Vicario stays in goal as the defenders play with a very high line. Romero acts as a dominant central defender who uses his aggression and strength to win the ball and tackle hard. van de Ven uses his recovery speed to cover the space behind the defence and sweep up long balls. This small defensive unit must remain compact to prevent being split by direct passes.
The midfield functions as a five man unit that provides both width and central control. Udogie and Porro act as wide players who can overlap the attackers to stretch the defence. In the middle, Bentancur and Sarr form a double pivot to shield the defence. Sarr presses aggressively to win the ball back high up the pitch, while Bentancur works to recycle possession and play through the lines. Maddison operates as an attacking ten in the hole to create chances and link the midfield to the front three with his passing range.
The attacking front line features three players who look to exploit space. Werner plays as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and find the feet of his teammates. Son stays on the left and will cut inside to use his pace and clinical finishing. Kulusevski plays on the right to carry the ball forward and provide width. This front three works in combinations to hit in behind on the transition.
This formation offers the ability to press high in coordinated waves to win the ball back quickly. Tottenham can create wide overloads by using Udogie and Porro to pin the last defender. The midfield also provides numerical superiority to control the game and win the second ball.
This 2-5-3 lineup is built for aggressive ball winning and rapid attacking transitions. It is best suited for facing teams that play a high line or those that struggle to play short from the back.
