Brentford focus on a high press and verticality through a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly. The goal is to use directness to catch the opposition before they can get set.

Cakebread stays between the posts to command the area. In front of him, a flat back four provides the base for the defensive unit. Gorman operates as the right back, ready to overlap when needed, while Coote handles the left side. The central defenders, Bates and Evans, work to hold the line and cover any runs made by the opposition. They look to win the second ball and clear the lines when under pressure.

The midfield consists of a three-man midfield with a carrier. Hurlock works to shield the defence and disrupt play in the center. Beside him, Graham and O’Connor connect the defensive and attacking lines by moving the ball forward. They aim to win possession in a mid-block and immediately find the forwards. These players must be ready to press in pairs to squeeze the space and force turnovers.

Brentford utilize three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. Toney plays as the lone striker and serves as a target man to hold up the ball. On the wings, Towers and Booker act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central threats. Their movement creates space for late runs from the midfield. When the team transitions, the wingers look to hit in behind on the transition to exploit any gaps.

This formation offers great speed of transition once the ball is won. By using Toney to hold the ball, Brentford can allow their wide players to spread wide and move into dangerous areas. The ability to press high in coordinated waves makes it difficult for opponents to play out from the back.

This 4-3-3 lineup relies on direct movement and high energy to overwhelm the opponent. Brentford will find success against teams that struggle to handle a heavy press or have slow defenders.
