Independiente Football Formation
Starting Lineup
FEDORCO · RODRIGO (REY) · LOMONACO · PELLEGRINO · VERA · DE IRASTORZA · MARTÍNEZ · LOYOLA · MONTIEL · AVALOS · HIDALGOIndependiente relies on a high press and direct attacking play within a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and hit teams quickly in transition. The team looks to squeeze the space in the middle and push the opposition back towards their own goal.
RODRIGO operates between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit sits in a back three consisting of FEDORCO, PELLEGRINO, and LOMONACO. FEDORCO acts as the central presence to win the header and clear the lines. PELLEGRINO and LOMONACO cover the wide areas to ensure the team remains compact when defending. This defensive unit works together to defend zonally and prevent runners from getting behind.
The midfield uses a three man midfield with a carrier to move the team forward. LOYOLA and MARTÍNEZ form a double pivot to shield the defence and win the second ball. VERA and DE IRASTORZA operate as inverted eights to connect the defensive and attacking lines. MONTIEL plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find the feet of the striker and create chances. This group works to compress the midfield and deny the turn of opposition players.
In the final third, Independiente uses two forwards in a partnership. AVALOS acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line. HIDALGO plays as a second striker in the hole to link up with the midfield. The team looks to play through the lines to find the forwards. They use combinations in tight spaces to break the line and create runs in behind.
One major advantage for Independiente is the numerical superiority in midfield which allows them to control the center of the pitch. The ability to press high in coordinated waves puts immense pressure on the opposition goalkeeper. This setup also provides the speed of transition needed to catch opponents out of position.
This 3-5-2 formation provides a heavy presence in the center of the park. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to dominate the middle and play through the opposition.
