Sevilla Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Barco · Montiel · Badé · Gudelj · Lokonga · Romero · Saúl · Sow · Iheanacho · Lukebakio · NylandSevilla FC relies on a defensive foundation to launch rapid attacks using a 5-2-3. The team identity is built on being defensively solid and using the transition to catch opponents off guard. This formation is designed to sit deep and wait for space to open up in the opposition defensive line.
Nyland acts as the goalkeeper to anchor the defensive unit. The back line functions as a back five with Lokonga, Gudelj, and Badé occupying the central positions. Gudelj and Badé provide aerial strength and defend zonally to protect the area. Lokonga works to cover the space behind the midfield and intercept passes. Montiel and Barco act as attacking wing backs to provide width and push up the flanks.
The midfield operates as a double pivot with Saúl and Sow. Saúl uses his passing range to create chances from deep and connect the defensive line to the attack. Sow focuses on protecting the center and winning the second ball to maintain control while tracking back to help the defenders. This pairing helps to compress the midfield and ensures the team remains compact when the opposition has the ball.
The Sevilla attacking unit consists of three forwards working in combination. Romero plays as a lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. Lukebakio stays wide on the right to use his pace to run in behind the defense and stretch the opposition. Iheanacho occupies the left side and uses his movement to cut inside and find space in the box. The wing backs, Montiel and Barco, help by overlapping the winger to deliver crosses from the byline.
One tactical advantage is the ability to create wide overloads through the movement of the wing backs. This forces the opposition to shift and can isolate Lukebakio in one on one situations. The team also benefits from the ability to press in a mid block and then break quickly once the ball is won to exploit the space left by the opponent.
This 5-2-3 lineup provides a platform for defensive stability and sudden verticality. It is a formation best suited for facing teams that control possession and play with a high line.
