Starting Lineup

Chiesa · Keane · Soule · Fagioli · Carnesecchi · Scalvini · Rovella · Frimpong · Parisi · Laporte · Hummels

Roma relies on a heavy high press and quick verticality within a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and use direct movement to catch the opposition before they can settle. The goal is to use width and speed to stretch the defense and create high quality chances in transition.

Carnesecchi acts as the goalkeeper behind a back three. Hummels leads the line as a ball playing center back who can read the game and sweep behind the defense. Scalvini operates as the right center back, using his aerial strength and ability to step into midfield, while Laporte plays as the left center back to provide cover. This defensive unit defends zonally and stays compact to prevent through balls.

The midfield uses a central pairing to control the center of the pitch. Rovella and Fagioli act as the two central midfielders, with Rovella working to shield the defense and Fagioli acting as a carrier to drive the ball forward. On the flanks, Frimpong plays as the right midfielder to provide width and pace, while Parisi occupies the left midfield role to help recycle possession and track back when the team loses the ball.

In the attacking third, Roma uses three attackers to pin the opposition defense. Keane acts as a pressing centre forward to lead the line and hold up the ball for others. Soule plays as an inverted winger on the right to cut inside and create, while Chiesa plays on the left, looking to drive at defenders and cross. This front line is designed to create runs in behind and exploit the spaces between the opposition full backs and center backs.

This formation provides several tactical advantages for Roma. The wide players like Frimpong can create wide overloads when they overlap the wingers. There is also a high ability to press high in coordinated waves because of the three attackers and two central midfielders. The presence of Hummels allows the team to play out from the back with confidence.

Roma utilizes this 3-4-3 to dominate games through aggressive pressing and rapid transitions. This lineup is best suited for facing teams that play a high line or struggle to play through a compact mid-block.
