On the edges of this group, B.Silva and De Bruyne operate in the half spaces. De Bruyne uses his passing range to find runners, while B.Silva works to connect the midfield to the attack.

In the final third, Man City employs three attackers to stretch the defense. Doku and Foden act as wide attackers, with Doku looking to use his dribbling style to beat his man on the flank. Foden cuts inside from the right to find pockets of space. Haaland sits as a central target man, using his physical presence to hold up the ball and win the header. The team looks to create cutbacks from the byline and through balls that hit in behind the defense.

This formation offers huge numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. By using five midfielders, the team can often overwhelm a standard three man midfield. The ability to press high in coordinated waves allows Manchester City to win the ball back high up the pitch. Additionally, the positioning of the wide midfielders allows for quick wide overloads when the full backs push up.
