Arsenal Football Formation
Starting Lineup
YAHYA · KIKI · SAMBA · KINZO · CHRIS · RACHID · HUSSLER · GK · LONDON · MEHDI · WILLINHOArsenal aims to control the middle of the pitch and win the ball high up the pitch through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to play a high press and use central dominance to dictate the tempo of the game. The goal is to squeeze the space and force turnovers in the opposition half to create quick attacking chances.
In goal, the goalkeeper starts the build up from the back. The defensive unit consists of a back three featuring London, Samba, and Kinzo. Samba operates as the left centre-back while Kinzo holds the right side, leaving London to act as the central defender who manages the line. These defenders work to defend zonally and can step up to intercept passes. When the team loses possession, they drop into a mid-block to protect the central areas.
The midfield is the engine of this Arsenal side, utilizing a three-man midfield with a carrier and an advanced creator. Yahya sits as the single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Beside him, Rachid and Chris operate as the central midfielders who connect the defensive and attacking lines. Willinho provides extra depth to help compress the midfield, while Kiki plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers. This group works to win the second ball and move the ball through the thirds.
The attacking unit features two forwards in a partnership consisting of Hussler and Mehdi. These two work together to press the opposition back line and make runs in behind. Mehdi often drops slightly deeper to link up play, while Hussler looks to find the feet of the striker or run into space. They use combinations in tight spaces to break the line and create chances. The width comes from the midfielders who push high to support the front two.
This formation offers several tactical advantages, specifically numerical superiority in midfield. By having five players in the center, the team can dominate the ball and control the rhythm. They also possess the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The presence of Kiki allows the team to quickly transition from a mid-block to a direct attack.
Arsenal uses this 3-5-2 to dominate possession and suffocate opponents in their own half. This formation is best suited for matches against teams that sit deep and rely on a low block.
