Starting Lineup

ARIAS · MARTIRENA · DI CESARE · GARCIA BASSO · ROJAS · SOSA · NARDONI · ALMENDRA · QUINTERO · MARTINEZ · VIETTO

Racing Club focuses on total central control through a 2-7-1 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the pitch by saturating the center with players to control possession and squeeze the space. The team aims to bypass the midfield with quick passing and maintain a high volume of ball retention.

ARIAS serves as the goalkeeper behind a minimal defensive line. GARCIA BASSO and DI CESARE act as the two central defenders who must play a high line to keep the team compact. These two must be ready to cover wide areas and play out from the back to initiate attacks. Because the back line is so small, they must stay alert to catch runners and defend the space behind them if the team loses the ball.

The midfield is a massive seven man block that dictates the game. MARTIRENA, SOSA, and ROJAS sit deep to shield the defense and protect the two center backs. NARDONI and ALMENDRA operate as the central engines, driving the ball forward and connecting the deep players to the attackers. QUINTERO and VIETTO push higher into the attacking third to create chances. This deep-lying trio and the advanced players work together to recycle possession and win the second ball.

MARTINEZ acts as a lone striker who must hold up the ball for the incoming midfield. The attack is built through the crowded center, with QUINTERO and VIETTO looking to find the striker or arrive late into the box. Such combinations in tight spaces allow the team to move through the lines. While the formation is narrow, the wide players can pull wide to stretch the defense when needed. Their main goal is to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines to split the opposition.

A major strength of this formation is the overwhelming numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. Racing Club can easily create passing triangles and use the large midfield block to win the second ball. The ability to play short from the back and move the ball quickly through the thirds makes them hard to press. This heavy central presence also allows for high pressing in coordinated waves.

This 2-7-1 formation is for complete possession dominance in the middle third. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to manage large numbers in the center and cannot exploit the space left by a high defensive line.
