This pair must hold the line and be ready to sprint back to defend against long balls.

The midfield consists of a five man unit that dominates the center. Rodri acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Grimaldo and Carvajal provide the width by pushing up to the flanks to spread the play. Pedri and Olmo occupy the half spaces to link the defense and the attack. Pedri uses his passing range to play through the lines while Olmo arrives late into the box to support the front three.

A front three of attackers works to stretch the opposition defense. Oyarzabal plays as the striker to lead the press and hold up the ball. Yamal and N.Williams act as wide players who look to isolate defenders. Yamal often cuts inside to create space for others while N.Williams uses his pace to hit in behind on the transition. They work together to find space in tight areas and deliver crosses into the box.

This formation offers massive numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. By having five players in the midfield, Spain can squeeze the space and win the second ball easily. The ability to create wide overloads from Grimaldo and Carvajal allows the team to attack in combinations. This lineup also makes it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back because of the coordinated pressing waves.
