Varaždin aims to be a hard team to beat by relying on a compact mid-block and quick transitions, utilizing a 4-5-1 formation. In the center, VULIKIĆ and STOLNIK act as the central defensive pair, looking to win the second ball and clear the lines when under pressure. They must hold the line and communicate to ensure the offside trap works when the team pushes up slightly.

The midfield acts as a wall to protect the back four. POSTONJSKI and TEKLIĆ form a double pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes. They work to win the ball and immediately look to find the more advanced players. FRUK plays as the central engine, connecting the defensive unit to the attacking players by recycling possession and driving the ball forward. On the flanks, LULIĆ and HERRERA occupy the half spaces to provide width and support the central midfield, helping to squeeze the space when the opposition tries to build play.

In the attacking phase, HOXHA operates as a lone striker, tasked with holding up the ball and pinning the last defender. The team builds play through the five midfielders, using LULIĆ and HERRERA to provide service from wide areas or by cutting inside to create central threats.
