Chelsea Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Jackson · Nkunku · Pedro (Neto) · Felix · Hall · Palmer · Disasi · James · Cucurella · Enzo · SanchezChelsea focuses on a high press and quick transitions using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and use the width of the field to stretch the opposition. The goal is to force turnovers in the final third and strike before the defensive unit can reset.
Sanchez acts as the goalkeeper behind a back three. Disasi and James operate as the wide centre-backs, while Cucurella plays as the left centre-back. James provides strength in duels, and Disasi stays close to the line to cover space. The unit can step up to squeeze the space between the lines or drop back if the team is caught on the break. They aim to play short from the back to start the build up.
The midfield consists of a double pivot where Enzo and Hall work to control the center. Enzo looks to receive the ball and play through the lines with his passing range. Hall provides cover to protect the defensive line and wins the second ball. Ahead of them, Palmer and Nkunku operate in the half spaces as attacking midfielders. Palmer uses his dribbling and creativity to create chances, while Nkunku moves into pockets of space to link the midfield to the attack.
The attacking line features three players who can rotate positions. Felix and Pedro act as wide attackers, with Felix often cutting inside to find space. Pedro stays wide to stretch the defence and provides crosses. Jackson plays as the lone striker, acting as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition centre-backs. This front three works to make runs in behind and create combinations in tight spaces to break the line of the opposition defence.
A major advantage for Chelsea is the ability to press high in coordinated waves with the front three and the attacking midfielders. The formation also allows for wide overloads when the midfield players push forward to support the wingers. This creates numerical superiority in the attacking third, making it difficult for opponents to defend the wide areas and the center simultaneously.
This 3-4-3 formation relies on aggressive pressing and rapid verticality. It is best suited for games where the team needs to dominate possession and pin the opponent in their own half.
