Starting Lineup

Baley · Alberti · Buglione · Carrascosa · Chabay · Brindisi · Rossi · Babington · Houseman · Méndez · Masantonio

Huracán aims to maintain a heavy defensive base while looking to strike quickly in transition. This 5-2-3 formation is built to stay compact and force the opposition into wide areas before breaking with pace. The lineup prioritizes defensive security to ensure the team remains hard to break down during the match.

Baley stays between the posts to command the area. The back line operates as a back five with Rossi acting as the central anchor to hold the line. Buglione and Alberti act as wide centre backs to cover the channels and win headers when balls are played into the box. Carrascosa and Chabay operate as the attacking wing backs, tasked to provide width and overlap the wingers. This unit can drop into a low block to deny space behind the defenders.

In the middle of the park, Brindisi and Babington form a two man midfield. Their primary job is to shield the defence and win the second ball. Brindisi often works to recycle possession and connect the lines, while Babington looks to carry the ball forward to link the play. They must work hard to compress the midfield and prevent the opponent from playing through the lines or finding space between the units.

The attack relies on a three man front line led by Masantonio. As the lone striker, Masantonio works to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Houseman and Méndez stay wide to stretch the defence, with Houseman looking to cut inside to create chances. The forwards work to press the opposition back line to force mistakes. The team attacks in combinations to hit the opposition back line on the break, often using the width provided by the wing backs to deliver crosses.

A major advantage for Huracán is the numerical superiority in the defensive third. Having Rossi, Buglione, and Alberti allows the team to defend zonally and cover a large area of the pitch. The speed of transition is another key strength, as the team can move from a compact formation to an attacking one very quickly. This makes it difficult for opponents to commit too many players forward without being caught on the break.

This 5-2-3 formation relies on defensive grit and quick counter attacking. It is best used against teams that control possession and leave space behind their midfield.
