Starting Lineup

Rangers look to play a direct and vertical game using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to strike quickly and put immediate pressure on the opposition defense. By pushing many players high up the pitch, the team aims to win the ball back fast and catch the opponent out of position.

Butland stays between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back four operates as a flat line where Sterling acts as the right back and Yilmaz covers the left side. Souttar and Balogun form the central pairing, with Souttar using his aerial strength to defend crosses and Balogun acting as a covering defender to sweep behind. The unit stays compact to ensure they do not get caught out during transitions, while the wide defenders look to hold their position to prevent being bypassed.

The midfield relies on a double pivot consisting of Raskin and Diomande. These two players must work hard to cover the space left behind the attacking line. Raskin is tasked to drive forward with the ball and connect the defense to the attack, while Diomande works to shield the defense and win the second ball. They act as the engine room, tasked to intercept passes and recycle possession so the team can move forward again.

Up front, the team utilizes two forwards in a partnership with Igamane and Danilo leading the line. They act as two central strikers to pin the last defender and occupy the center backs. Hagi plays as an inverted winger on the left, looking to cut inside and create chances, while Cerny stays wide on the right to stretch the defense. This front line is designed to create runs in behind and use the width to isolate one on one situations against full backs.

Rangers find success through the speed of transition and the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The presence of four attackers allows for wide overloads when the full backs push up to support the wingers. Having a strong double pivot in the middle provides a platform to switch play quickly and find the attackers in space.
