Hatayspor Football Formation
Starting Lineup
ERCE (KARDESLER) · RECEP (YILMAZ) · GUY-MARCELIN (KILAMA) · FRANCISCO (CALVO) · CEMALI (SERTEL) · GÖRKEM (SAĞLAM) · LAMINE (DIACK) · FUNSHO (BAMGBOYE) · RUI (PEDRO) · JOELSON (FERNANDES) · VINCENT (ABOUBAKAR)Hatayspor aims to play a highly defensive and direct brand of football using a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep, protect the central areas, and strike quickly when the opposition leaves gaps. The goal is to make the team hard to break down while using long balls to find a target in the final third.
Vincent operates as the last line of defense behind a five man defensive block. The back line consists of three central defenders with Rui, Lamine, and Görkem holding the middle. Rui acts as the anchor to protect the area, while Lamine and Görkem provide coverage across the width of the defense. On the flanks, Joelson plays as a right wing back to provide width and Funsho acts as the left wing back to cover the defensive line and push up when needed. This unit works to stay compact and deny any space between the lines.
The midfield operates in a flat line of four to squeeze the space in the middle. Guy-Marcelin and Francisco form a central pairing to shield the defense and win the second ball. Guy-Marcelin acts as a carrier to move the ball from deep, while Francisco works to intercept passes and recycle possession. On the edges, Recep and Cemali play as wide midfielders who are tasked to track back and help the wing backs. This midfield unit focuses on maintaining a narrow defensive block to force the opponent wide.
In the attacking phase, Erce acts as a lone striker. He is tasked to hold up the ball and wait for support to arrive. The attack relies on the wing backs, Joelson and Funsho, to provide width by overlapping the midfielders. When Hatayspor wins the ball, the intent is to hit in behind on the transition or use Erce to link up play between the lines. The team looks to use the wide areas to cross the ball into the box or find Erce as he tries to pin the last defender.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its compactness when defending. By sitting in a deep block, Hatayspor makes it very difficult for opponents to find space in the final third. The setup also provides the ability to hit in behind on the transition, using the width of the wing backs to stretch the opposition once the ball is won.
Hatayspor utilizes a low block to absorb pressure and strike on the break. This 5-4-1 formation is best suited for games against dominant teams that hold high possession.
