Starting Lineup

Caranta · Olmedo · Nieto · Krausemann · Anelli · Mastrosimone · Corti · Ardiles · Dertycia · Sarría · Jiménez

Instituto prefers to play a direct and high intensity style of football using a 4-4-2. The team aims to press high and win the ball quickly to catch opponents out of position. This formation is designed to move the ball vertically through the thirds.

Caranta plays as the goalkeeper to organize the back line. The defense operates with a flat back four using Anelli and Krausemann as the wide defenders. Olmedo and Nieto serve as the central pair to protect the area. Olmedo and Nieto must be dominant in the air and ready to cover when a teammate steps up. Anelli and Krausemann are tasked to provide width and overlap the wingers, but they must also track back to maintain a compact block.

The midfield works to control the center of the pitch through a central zone. Corti plays as a single pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Ardiles and Mastrosimone act as the runners in the middle to drive forward with the ball and connect the lines. Sarría plays as the link between the midfield and the attack to receive on the half-turn. This allows the team to recycle possession and play through the lines.

The attacking unit features a partnership of two forwards. Dertycia and Jiménez lead the line to press the opposition back line and force a long ball. Dertycia works to hold up the ball and lay it off to teammates. Jiménez looks to make runs in behind to exploit space. Sarría plays in the hole as a second striker to combine in tight spaces. The team looks to get to the byline and whip it in to the strikers.

A major strength of this Instituto lineup is the ability to press in coordinated waves to win it back high up the pitch. The team can also create wide overloads when the full backs push up. They maintain a narrow defensive block to deny the turn of any attacking midfielder.

This 4-4-2 relies on a strong central presence and quick vertical movement. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line and struggle to defend transitions.
