Starting Lineup

Boca plays with a focus on defensive solidity and quick transitions through a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup aims to remain compact when out of possession while using the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition during attacking phases. The tactical intent is to absorb pressure and then exploit space behind the defense with rapid movements.

Brey sits between the posts to command the area and organize the back line. The defensive unit operates as a back five with Delgado acting as the central defender to hold the line. Beside him, Rojo and Di Lollo provide cover in a staggered back three, where Rojo uses his experience to intercept passes and Di Lollo supports the zonal line. Blanco and Gorosito act as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width and pushing high up the pitch to support the attack. This system allows the defenders to stay close together to deny space between the lines.

In the middle of the pitch, Boca utilizes a two-man midfield to control the center. Belmonte and Saralegui operate as the central duo, tasked with pressing aggressively to win the ball high and shielding the back five. Belmonte acts as a carrier to move the ball from deep, while Saralegui works to connect the defensive and attacking lines. They must work hard to cover the ground between the wings and the center to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

The attacking unit features three players across the front to pin the last defender. Merentiel leads the line as a pressing centre-forward, looking to win the second ball and link up play with his teammates. On the flanks, Aguirre and Zenon act as wide wingers who can cut inside to create goalscoring chances or stay wide to receive the ball. The team builds attacks by using the wing backs to overlap the wingers, creating situations to deliver crosses or play one-two combinations in the final third.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when Blanco and Gorosito push forward to join the attackers. This forces the opposition to defend a large amount of space. Boca also gains a significant advantage through their compactness when defending, as the narrow defensive block makes it very difficult for opponents to find gaps in the middle.
