Starting Lineup

Napoli look to dominate through a high press and massive central presence with this 2-6-2 formation. The lineup is built to suffocate the opposition in their own half and win the ball back high up the pitch. Svilar stays between the posts to manage the space behind the defenders. Darmian and Hien operate as a very high back two, acting as ball playing defenders who must be ready to cover huge amounts of ground. Hien provides aerial strength while Darmian needs to be ready to step up and intercept any direct passes.

The midfield is a massive block consisting of six players designed to congest the center of the pitch. Angelino and N Tavares act as a double pivot to shield the two center backs and protect the central zone. Cataldi sits in front to recycle possession, while Pisilli and Zaccagni occupy the half spaces to drive forward with the ball. Morata operates as an attacking ten behind the two strikers, looking to play through the lines and find pockets of space between the opposition lines.

Napoli use two forwards in a partnership to pin the last defender and keep the play moving forward. Kean and Adams work as a front two, often combining in tight spaces to create chances. They press from the front to force the opposition into mistakes and hurried clearances. The movement of Morata allows the strikers to make runs in behind or play a one two to bypass a mid block.

This formation offers massive numerical superiority in midfield, making it very difficult for opponents to find passing lanes through the center. The high concentration of players allows Napoli to win the second ball effectively and transition quickly once possession is regained.
