Starting Lineup

River aims to dominate through high intensity and immediate pressure in a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in their own half by pushing many players forward to win the ball back high up the pitch. By using this aggressive system, River looks to catch opponents before they can settle into their defensive positions.

Armani sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a narrow pair of central defenders, Gomez and Pezze, who must step up to maintain a very high line. These two defenders act as the last line of defense, requiring them to be quick to cover runs in behind and to win the second ball if the initial press is bypassed. Because there are no full backs in this formation, Gomez and Pezze must be ready to defend large spaces against wide attackers.

The midfield relies on a central block to control the center of the pitch. Villagra acts as the pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession, while Acuña and Bustos work as a double pivot to drive forward with the ball. The presence of an attacking ten behind the strikers provides a link between the central midfielders and the front line. Acuña is tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high, ensuring the team can transition into an attack as soon as the ball is recovered.

The attack uses four players to stretch the defense and pin the last defender. Colidio and Driussi operate as a forward partnership in the center, often looking to play one-two combinations to split the defense with a through ball. Meza plays as a wide winger on the right to provide width, while the left winger stays high to force the opposition back. The forwards are expected to press from the front, forcing a long ball from the opposition which the central defenders can then intercept.

This formation offers significant advantages when hunting for goals. The team creates numerical superiority in the attacking third, making it hard for opponents to mark every runner. The high press allows the team to win it back high up the pitch, creating immediate chances through speed of transition. By occupying all the central and wide areas in the final third, the lineup makes it very difficult for the opposition to hold a compact shape.
