Watford looks to play a high pressing and vertical game using a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup aims to flood the final third and catch opponents in transition. The primary goal is to win the ball back high up the pitch and get to the box as fast as possible through direct movements.

Bachmann stands between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back line consists of a narrow duo with Sierralta and Ogbonna acting as the central defenders. Sierralta works to win the header and clear the lines, while Ogbonna provides cover to protect the space behind. Because there are only two defenders, they must step up to squeeze the space and prevent runners from finding room behind them.

In the center of the pitch, Porteous and Larouci form a double pivot to protect the two center backs. Porteous acts as the ball winner to intercept passes, while Larouci works to shield the defense and recycle possession. Moving ahead of them, M. Sissoko and Louza operate in the half spaces to connect the midfield to the attack. M. Sissoko uses his driving runs to carry the ball forward, and Louza looks to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines to create chances.

The attacking line is extremely aggressive with four players pushing high. Ince and Embosele act as wide attackers, with Ince looking to cut inside and Embosele stretching the defense by hugging the touchline. Chakvetadze and Bayo lead the line as a central partnership. Bayo serves as a physical presence to hold up the ball, while Chakvetadze plays as a second striker in the hole to arrive late into the box and find pockets of space.

Watford relies on the ability to create wide overloads and use the speed of transition to punish teams. The formation allows for heavy pressure in the final third, which can force a long ball from the opposition. This high intensity makes it difficult for the opponent to build out from the back without facing immediate pressure from the four forwards.
