Starting Lineup

SK Rapid seeks to dominate through high intensity and verticality using a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball back high up the pitch and forcing errors in the opposition half. The team relies on heavy pressure and quick transitions to overwhelm the opponent with numbers in the final third.

Hedl guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line consists of a narrow two man unit with Raux Yao and Cvetkovic acting as central defenders. Both Raux Yao and Cvetkovic must defend in a high line to squeeze the space and support the pressing. These defenders often find themselves isolated in one on one situations, requiring them to be dominant in the air and quick to intercept long balls. They play out from the back to initiate the buildup, often looking to find the midfield quickly to bypass the first line of pressure.

The midfield is a box consisting of a double pivot and two attacking midfielders. J. Auer and Bolla work as the central pair to shield the defense and win the second ball. J. Auer acts as a deep lying playmaker to help recycle possession, while Bolla protects the space between the midfield and the two central defenders. Further forward, Børkeeiet and Oswald occupy the half spaces to link the play. Børkeeiet and Oswald press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and drive forward with the ball to create chances.

The attack uses four players to stretch the defense across the pitch. Seidl and Jansson act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to provide width. Seidl and Jansson look to deliver early crosses or cut inside to create threats. In the center, Schaub and Beljo operate as two forwards in a partnership. Schaub and Beljo work to pin the last defender and find space for late runs. This front line is designed to attack in combinations and exploit the space behind the opposition defensive line through quick runs in behind.

One major tactical advantage for SK Rapid is the ability to press high in coordinated waves with almost the entire team. The formation allows the club to create wide overloads when the wingers and midfielders combine to pull the opposition apart. Additionally, the heavy central presence of Schaub and Beljo ensures the team can win the second ball in the attacking third. The sheer number of players in the final third makes it very difficult for the opposition to track every runner.
