PSG Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Miguel · Ornan · Luigino · Regan · Léandre · Lancelot · Tinéo · Duane · Lukiano · Charles · LiamPSG looks to play a direct and vertical style of football through a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup aims to win the second ball and strike quickly when the opposition loses control. The team works to push the opponent back and use the width of the pitch to stretch the defence.
Liam stays between the posts to direct the defensive line. The back four functions as a flat back four to keep the unit compact. Ornan and Regan act as the full backs, looking to overlap the wide midfielders when the team has the ball. In the middle of the defence, Miguel and Luigino operate as the central pairing, with Miguel acting as a dominant force in the air while Luigino covers the space behind him to sweep up long balls.
The midfield consists of a central pairing and two wide players. Léandre and Lukiano play in the center to control the middle of the pitch and connect the defence to the attack. Léandre works to drive forward with the ball to break the line, while Lukiano focuses on shielding the defence and recycling possession. On the flanks, Lancelot and Charles provide width and are tasked to track back when the team loses possession.
PSG utilizes two forwards in a partnership to pressure the opponent back line. Duane plays as the lone striker who works to hold up the ball and wait for support. Tinéo plays as a second striker in the hole, looking to find the feet of the striker or make runs in behind. This duo creates combinations in tight spaces and looks to hit in behind on the transition to catch the opposition out of position.
One major advantage of this lineup is the ability to create wide overloads from overlapping full backs. By having Regan and Ornan push up, they create space for Lancelot and Charles to move inside. The team also gains a strength in their ability to press in a mid-block, using the four midfielders to squeeze the space and force a long ball from the opposition.
This 4-4-2 formation relies on a strong central pairing and effective wide play to control matches. It is best suited for games against teams that play with a high line and can be punished on the break.
