Starting Lineup

Rosario Central aims to control the game through a strong defensive base and quick transitions, utilizing a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to sit in a mid-block and win the second ball before hitting the opposition with speed. The team looks to absorb pressure and then spread wide to exploit the spaces left behind the opposing full backs.

In goal, Roffo acts as the last line of defense. The back line consists of a back five that provides great coverage across the width of the pitch. Ibarra sits at the center of the defense to win headers and organize the line, while Giménez and Duarte operate as the wide centre-backs to cover the spaces behind the wing backs. Sández and Coronel act as attacking wing backs, pushing high to provide width and deliver crosses. The unit works to stay compact and shift together to deny the turn to any oncoming attackers.

The midfield functions as a double pivot consisting of Segovia and O'Connor. These two players are tasked with protecting the center of the pitch and breaking up play. Segovia works to recycle possession and link the defense to the attack, while O'Connor focuses on pressing to win the ball back high up the pitch. By controlling this central area, they prevent the opposition from playing through the lines and allow the team to move from a defensive stance into a more attacking one.

Rosario Central employs three attackers to stretch the defense. Bruera operates as a lone striker, holding up the ball and waiting for support to arrive. Copetti and Duarte act as wide forwards, with Copetti cutting inside to create central threats and Duarte looking to isolate defenders one on one. This front three works to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. They use combinations to move the ball quickly, looking for runs in behind or cutbacks from the byline.

One major tactical strength of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when Sández and Coronel push forward to join the attackers. This forces the opposing wingers to track back and defend deep. Another advantage is the compactness when defending in a mid-block, which makes it very difficult for opponents to find gaps between the lines. The presence of three attackers also allows for immediate pressure on the ball during a transition.
