Rosario Central Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Broun · Giménez · Mallo · Coronel · Sández · Ibarra · Malcorra · O'Connor · Duarte · Copetti · CampazRosario Central aims to remain defensively solid while hitting teams on the break. This 5-2-3 formation is built to defend with heavy numbers in the back and use quick transitions to hurt the opposition. The lineup focuses on staying compact when the ball is lost and spreading wide when they win it back to stretch the defence.
Broun stands between the posts to command the area and organize the line. The defensive unit operates in a back five with Ibarra, Giménez, and Mallo forming the central block. Mallo and Giménez work to win the header and clear the lines while Ibarra covers the middle. Coronel and Sández act as attacking wing backs to provide width. They can push up to overlap the winger or drop back to form a low block when the team needs to sit deep.
In front of the defenders, a two man midfield contains O'Connor and Malcorra. Malcorra uses his passing range to play through the lines and switch play to the flanks. O'Connor works to shield the defence and win the second ball in the middle of the pitch. They are the engine that connects the back five to the attacking trio, often dropping deep to receive if the opposition presses high to try and win the ball.
The attack features three players across the front line. Copetti acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and hold up the ball for his teammates. Duarte and Campaz operate as wide attackers, with Duarte looking to cut inside and Campaz trying to get to the byline to deliver early crosses. They look to break quickly on the transition to catch the opponent out of position and hit in behind.
This formation offers clear tactical advantages through its defensive solidity. The back five provides a narrow defensive block that is very hard to break down centrally. Rosario Central also creates wide overloads when Coronel and Sández push forward to support the wingers. This allows the team to win the second ball and keep the game in the opponent half during sustained periods of play.
The 5-2-3 formation is a resilient way to play that relies on defensive discipline and rapid counter attacks. This lineup is best suited for matches against high pressing teams that leave space to hit in behind on the transition.
