Brann relies on a direct and vertical identity built around a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup aims to win the second ball and transition quickly from a compact block to a dangerous attacking unit. By playing with two banks of four, the team looks to control the width of the pitch and strike through central combinations or wide deliveries.

Vidar Bahus guards the goal while the back line holds a zonal line to maintain discipline. Geirmund Brendesæter acts as a defensive wing back on the right to help the team defend the flanks, while Christian Kalvenes provides cover on the left. In the middle, Tore Pedersen and Claus Lundekvam act as central defenders who focus on winning the header and clearing the lines when the opposition attacks. The defensive unit works together to stay close to one another and squeeze the space between the lines.

The midfield operates with a three man midfield with a carrier who drives the ball forward. Roger Helland sits in a deeper role to shield the defence and protect the center backs. Next to him, Ágúst Thór Gylfason and Lars Bakkerud work to win the ball in a mid block and connect the defensive unit to the forwards. Geir Hasund plays a more advanced role in the middle to arrive late into the box and help recycle possession when the team moves into the final third.

Up front, Brann uses two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defence. Trevor Morley and Eivind Karlsbakk work together to press the opposition back line and create runs in behind. They combine in tight spaces to find ways to play through the lines, often using one to hold up the ball while the other makes a move. This duo looks to exploit the channels and create chances through quick link up play between the lines or by dragging defenders out of position.

A major tactical strength of this Brann lineup is the ability to press in a mid block to force a long ball from the opponent. The numerical equality in the midfield makes it hard for teams to find passing lanes through the center. Additionally, the team can create wide overloads when the full backs push up to support the wide midfielders, allowing them to whip it in toward the two strikers.

This 4-4-2 formation is built to be defensively solid and strike with high intensity. It is best suited for games against teams that play with a high line and can be punished on the transition.
