Lanús Football Formation
Starting Lineup
PONA · JOACO · NAHUEL · PIPA · CHINCHU · TITO · SANTI · EZE · AGU · FACU · NAHUELanús focuses on a direct and physical presence through a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to be defensively solid while utilizing the width of the pitch to launch quick attacks. The team looks to soak up pressure and then hit the opposition with verticality in transition.
Pona acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of Tito, Pipa, and Nahuel. Tito acts as the central defender to clear the lines and win headers, while Pipa and Nahuel operate as wide centre-backs to cover the channels. Joaco and Chinchu play as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing the width and pushing high up the pitch to support the attack. This system allows the team to drop into a low block when needed to deny space between the lines.
The midfield features a three-man midfield with a carrier and an attacking ten. Eze and Santi work in the central spaces to win the second ball and protect the back three. Eze connects the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession when the team builds play. Agu plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers, looking to find pockets of space and play through the lines. This unit works to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch to force the opponent wide.
The attack utilizes two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defense. Facu and Nahue operate as a duo that can work together to hold up the ball or run in behind. Nahue and Facu often use their movement to pin the last defender, creating space for the wing backs to overlap. When attacking, the team looks to spread wide through Joaco and Chinchu to deliver crosses into the box. The forwards also press from the front to trigger a press high up the pitch when the ball is lost.
Lanús gains a tactical advantage through the ability to shift between a back five and a back three during the transition. The wing backs, Joaco and Chinchu, allow for wide overloads that can catch a mid-block off guard. Having two strikers like Facu and Nahue ensures the team always has a central presence to receive long balls and play one-two combinations.
This 5-3-2 formation provides a compact defensive block that is very difficult to break down. It is best suited for matches against possession heavy teams where Lanús can exploit space on the counter at pace.
