SK Rapid prioritizes a direct and vertical style of play built to overwhelm opponents in the final third. Zeman stays between the posts to protect the goal while the defensive unit operates with extreme risk. Ivanov and Happel form a narrow back two that must stay alert to cover massive amounts of space behind them. These two central defenders are required to be dominant in the air and quick to track back if the ball is lost. Because there are no full backs, Ivanov and Happel often have to step up to intercept long balls or engage strikers before they can turn.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to provide a sense of balance. Katzer and Lainer sit in front of the two defenders to shield the back line and win the second ball. Katzer works to break the line with his passing, while Lainer focuses on sitting deep to protect the center. Ahead of them, Hanappi and Kühbauer operate as two attacking midfielders who find space between the lines. Hanappi and Kühbauer connect the play from the midfield to the attack, often pressing aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch.

The attacking front line is massive, utilizing two central forwards and two wide players to stretch the defense. Bican and Krankl operate as a strike partnership, with Krankl often using his movement to find space and Bican acting as a target to hold up the ball. On the flanks, Hofmann and Herzog stay wide to provide width and create crossing opportunities. Hofmann and Herzog look to isolate defenders in one on one situations, while the two strikers work to pull the opposition defenders out of position to create runs in behind.

One major advantage for SK Rapid is the ability to create wide overloads and heavy pressure in the attacking third. By having four players in the front line, they can squeeze the space and force the opposition into making mistakes. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the team can move from a defensive block to a full attacking wave in seconds. This high volume of players in the box makes it difficult for opponents to defend against repeated crosses and second balls.
