Hungary relies on a direct and hard working identity within a 3-5-2 formation. The lineup aims to control the center of the pitch while using verticality to reach the final third. This formation is built to play with a compact middle and quick transitions to exploit gaps between the opposition lines.

Grosics acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back three consists of Lóránt, Buzánszky, and Lantos working as a narrow defensive block. Lantos and Buzánszky provide cover while Lóránt acts as the central anchor to win the second ball. The defensive unit works to stay compact and shift together to deny the turn of any incoming attackers.

A crowded five man midfield serves as the engine for Hungary. Bozsik operates as a deep lying playmaker pairing with Szojka to shield the defense. Czibor and Palotás occupy the central spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Budai acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball. This group is tasked to win it back high up the pitch and recycle possession to maintain control.

The attacking line features a partnership of two forwards. Puskás plays as the advanced striker with legendary passing range and technical skill, often looking to split the defense with a through ball. Kocsis plays alongside him as a second striker to provide a presence in the box. They press from the front to force a long ball from the opponent and look to hit in behind on the transition.

This formation offers significant advantages through numerical superiority in midfield. By packing the center, the team can squeeze the space and make it difficult for opponents to play through the lines. The presence of Puskás and Kocsis also allows for quick combinations in tight spaces to catch the opposition out of position.

Hungary uses this lineup to dominate the central areas of the pitch. It is best suited for matches against teams that try to play through the middle rather than using wide areas.
